UCeed is the University of Calgary's donor-funded, evergreen venture philanthropy platform, managed by Innovate Calgary, the university's wholly owned commercialization subsidiary. Across seven thematic funds covering health, child health and wellness, neuroscience, energy, engineering and science, social impact and a student-run fund, it makes pre-seed and seed equity investments in research-driven startups, anchored in Calgary and Alberta and increasingly sourced from Canadian universities beyond Alberta. It ranks among the most active early-stage investors in Canada, with $12 million deployed in 74 startups and $30 million under management as of November 2025, and recorded its first exit in September 2025 when Hyperlume was acquired by Credo Technology, returning ten times UCeed's investment to the fund.
